Types of Japanese Tea
Matcha
Matcha is powdered Japanese tea mainly used for tea ceremonies. It is made by grinding fine green tea leaves on a stone mill. Matcha is perfect for drawing out the flavors of Japanese confectionery and cuisine.
Gyokuro
Gyokuro is regarded as one of the highest grade Japanese teas. Gyokuro has a sweeter, less bitter taste. This is because Gyokuro bushes are shaded to avoid direct sunlight for a few weeks before being harvested. This process makes Gyokuro taste much richer.
Sencha
Sencha is the most popular Japanese tea. Sencha has refreshing taste and suits not only having a meal also anytime you want.
In general, Sencha is green tinged with yellow and has a well-balanced combination of aroma, umami and bitterness, providing you with a feeling of luxury that increases with the grade of Japanese tea.
Hojicha
Hojicha is roasted green tea. It has a fragrant flavor and is often served with meals.
Hojicha is a warm brown color, and since it has a somewhat mild flavor, is popular with children and the elderly.
