Art of Japanese tea

Here, we will hold exhibitions of a wide range of genres, from traditional crafts to contemporary art, photography, and installations, inspired by the traditional culture of Japanese tea.
The aim of this project is to create an opportunity for visitors to enjoy art while drinking tea as part of their daily lives and to reflect on the rich culture of tea here in Kyoto.
With respect to the traditional culture, we aspire to create and maintain a new cultural space that offers a unique art experience.

Gallery Design

The tea-themed art program at our gallery welcomes visitors to experience a new way of art while enjoying a cup of tea and the hospitality that is uniquely Fukujuen. We also aim to be a place where art, tradition, and innovation intersect. The art space was designed by architect Fumio Toki, renowned for his design of the National Diet Library (West Wing), the Mori Ogai Memorial Museum, and the Helsinki Concert Hall, and for receiving numerous architectural awards in Japan and abroad. With the "Wa" taste and in keeping with the architectural concept of the Fukujuen Kyoto Flagship Store, the gallery space is designed to make artworks shine and introduce a place where the mind is at ease.
